Created by Robia Rashid, Atypical stars Keir Gilchrist as Sam Gardner, an autistic adolescent who must contend with the trials and tribulations of developing. One of Sam’s defining traits is that he’s fascinated by Antarctica and loves penguins. The show was revived for a fourth and final season in February 2020.
The Netflix original series also focuses on the lives of Sam’s household members. His mother Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh) loves him very much, but maybe overbearing and is reluctant to allow Sam to have the liberty he wants. His father Doug (Michael Rapaport) is a type but oblivious to the requirements of his family. Sam’s sister Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine) is his confidant and shield, but just like her brother, she desperately wants to branch away.
