For the Indian market Maruti is producing a new 5-door Jimny.

At Auto Expo 2020 Maruti Suzuki unveiled the much-awaited Jimny. The carmaker was collecting public feedback to see whether they launch the compact SUV in India would have a decent amount of takers.

Now confirmed that Maruti developing an Indian market larger and more practical 5-door Jimny. So, it will be manufactured on the Gujarat plant at the company.

Maruti will start manufacturing in June this year for the 3-door version but it will not be released on the domestic market. It will only so produced for exports.

The 5-door Maruti Jimny will start production six months later. And will go on sale in both domestic and export markets. The Maruti Jimny will retail through the Nexa Premium Dealer network.

In terms of hardware, Jimny with a low-range transfer case will be provided in 4 vari4. It will have a 1.5 liter K12B petrol engine that will produce 105 BHP. Planned to arrive with a starting price of under Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom) in early 2021.

All that changed, however, when Maruti wanted to exhibit the Jimny at AutoExpo 2020. Even before entering India at AutoExpo. The SUV produced a lot of hype and has also been named the 2019 World Urban Car Of The Year. The company has agreed to launch the Jimny SUV in India. After receiving an impressive response at AutoExpo 2020.

We expect the off-road Jimny SUV to be powered by a naturally-aspired 1.5-liter 4-cylinder K-Series petrol engine currently featured on the Maruti Ciaz. The engine produces 103.2 bhp and 138Nm torque and comes equipped with a manual five-speed transmission or an optional automatic four-speed torque converter unit.

As seen on global-spec SUVs. Jimny supposed to feature a four-wheel-drive transfer case and low-range transmission.

The durable off-road SUV so supposed to carry identical hardware on the interiors brought from the global-spec models. Those include a 7-inch infotainment screen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. And fixed buttons for steering; among others.
