The game is set on Tsushima Island in Japan, in the year 1274. The First invasion of Japan inspires Ghost of Tsushima in the 1270s. Yet the characters in the game are fictional. Game’s manager Nate Fox said in an interview, “We’re trying hard to transport people to 1274 Japan. We are motivated by history, but we are not building it back a stone. Our protagonist is a work of fiction.”
The Mongol empire ravages the island, and Tsushima has only one hope: Jin Sakai, among the surviving Samurais. After seeing his fellow getting wiped out by the Mongols, Jin realizes he wants to train by means of Ghost and that their fighting strategy is of no use.
