For all those waiting to see the second-gen Thar, the wait is nearly over. Mahindra has announced the launch of the second-gen Thar in the second quarter of FY 2020-21. Mahindra is refraining from giving out any more details about the SUV. But, we have a fair share of idea thanks to some spy shots. So, let’s take a look.
Upgrades
While the current Thar comes only in diesel version, the 2020 Thar is to come with some changes. It expects to offer a 2.0 L BS6 petrol and diesel engine. The petrol engine has a power of 190PS and 380Nm torque. The 2.0 L diesel units are to produce greater power than the outgoing 2.5 L petrol units. There is also going to be an option of an automatic transmission along with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox and a 4WD drive-train.
The 2020 Thar also includes a factory fitted hardtop along with features such as cruise control, a touch-screen infotainment system, rear front-facing seats and power windows. There are also going to be disc-brakes on all four wheels, dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD and parking camera and rear parking sensors.
The new Thar comes with substantial upgrades. Thus, it can attract a premium of up to Rs. 2 lakhs over the current model, which comes at around Rs. 9.5 lakhs. It is to rival the Force Gurkha, also coming with a generation update.
