The fifth series of Peaky Blinders is preceded by string four and broadcasted on BBC One August 25, 2019 — September 22, 2019. Following its atmosphere on live TV, show five was released on October 4, 2019, on Netflix. It marks the first time in the show to air on BBC One rather than BBC Two.

Filming for the fifth series officially began on September 17, 2018. On October 10, there showed a screenshot filming was shot place outside. Another screenshot featuring Cillian Murphy on the set was also released. The show wrapped up filming on January 18, 2019.
The show’s founder Steven Knight explained the enemies of the fifth series were from the famed gangs of Glasgow, saying that” a particular group is known as the Billy Boys” would improve the new threat for its Peaky Blinders in Birmingham.
