Netflix’s Spenser Confidential continues to be officially released globally and neatly sets Spenser Confidential two – but will it occur and what can fans expect if it will? The movie relies on the characters created by Robert B. Parker. After debuting in 1973’s The Godwulf Manuscript, Parker revisited the figures for over forty stories. After Parker’s passing, however, crime reporter-turned-novelist Ace Atkins took over the series. He has since written eight books. It was his second story, 2013’s Wonderland, that functioned as the loose inspiration for Spencer Confidential.
Directed by Peter Berg, the film marked the fifth collaboration with Mark Wahlberg following 2018’s Mile 22. Wahlberg stars as Spenser, a former Boston police officer who was imprisoned for attacking his ruler, John Boylan (Michael Gaston). Released after a sentence, his goal to begin new in Arizona was pursued by Spenser. Unfortunately, the murder of Boylan and the suicide of another priest drew Spenser to a web of drug trafficking, crime, and police corruption.
Spenser Confidential also stars Alan Arkin as Spencer’s boxing trainer Henry, Iliza Shlesinger because his fiery ex Cissy and Winston Duke because his new roommate Hawk. All three found themselves dragged into proceedings as Spenser sought to unravel the puzzle and place some past demons to rest. Interspersed with regular set-pieces both action-packed and comedically driven, Spenser Confidential has proven hugely successful for its streaming service, despite extremely lukewarm reviews. As a result, many enthusiasts have questioned whether or not a sequel is forthcoming.
Spenser Confidential Sets Up A Sequel
Spenser Confidential laid the groundwork for a follow-up. Having dismantled Driscoll’s criminal empire in action-packed fashion, Spenser sat down to enjoy a meal with Hawk, Henry, and Cissy. As the group chit-chatted, from while Spenser was in prison, a news report came on the TV and reported. Spenser immediately realized the guy being arrested as someone he moved to a school with. Despite the pleas for the channel to be changed of Henry, Spenser remained transfixed because his former classmate announced his innocence and cried for assistance. It was apparent from the expression of Spenser that his detective instincts had been sparked by the personal connection and would push him.
Although the name of Spenser’s high school friend was distinct, the character of the reported case sounded remarkably like that from Atkins’ fifth Spenser novel, Slow Burn – which sees Spenser pursue a dangerous arsonist. Whether Spenser Confidential 2 follows through on this threat remains cloudy. On the flip side, it would make for a story. On the flip side, it might just as likely function as a coda that highlights the core tendencies of Spenser before leap-frogging it over into the central mystery of another novel.
Spenser Confidential 2 Isn’t Confirmed Yet
Unfortunately for lovers, it’s far too early to know when Netflix will officially greenlight Spenser Confidential 2. There are, however, lots of reasons to stay optimistic. First, the idea of a blockbuster movie franchise bolstered by an A-list star as Wahlberg would no doubt be more beneficial to the services. That would have been the case, but the simple fact that Spenser Confidential has consistently remained in Netflix’s new Top 10 ranks since its global release will assuredly raise the chances of a sequel. Equally, fans of the Spenser novels learning that a collection of adaptations are from the works will probably generate some readers.
Spenser Confidential 2 Release Date Prediction
Spenser Confidential was first announced in mid-2018, making it almost two years before it was eventually released on displays. Therefore, it’d likely make mid-to-late 2022 a right choice for if Spenser Confidential two could emerge. Of course, it all would depend on the program of Wahlberg. He remains a celebrity, while he would no doubt welcome working with Berg a time. After his breakout turn in Black Panther, same also goes for Duke – that could return for the upcoming sequel in a more villainous role. Given that and the production problems emerging as a consequence of this Coronavirus outbreak, it might be even longer before Spenser Confidential 2 begins filming, much fewer hits displays.
