Amidst getting into the truth about her ex Benjamin”Benny,” Blackbird’s (Sam Marra) passing, private investigator Dex Parios (Cobie Smulders) currently has two potential candidates to be a future adore on Stumptown.
Up until today, Dex’s romantic encounters with her very best friend and bar owner/ex-con Grey McConnell (Jake Johnson) and (former) Detective Miles Hoffman (Michael Ealy) have largely been casual, together with the potential to become more. And while Smulders stated in Season 1, “I can not imagine there’s a triangle coming,” explaining, “She is up for all the night has to offer, but in the morning she’s always lonely because she chooses to be,” that could very well change as she figures out who she is after becoming closure about Benny’s passing.
“For 12 years, this entire thing defined me,” she told his mother, Sue Lynn (Tantoo Cardinal), at his grave from the finale. Maybe the person she is is somebody who could be prepared for a lot more than simply”whatever the night has to offer you.” We’d see her beginning to alter a little of her bed, including that entire arrangement. (As Sue Lynn had counseled, doing so”begins a path to dictate. As soon as you got the sequence, you may start to forgive yourself.”)
But if she is prepared for a connection, that doesn’t necessarily indicate it would be with Miles or Grey. As we have seen, she matches people she is interested in virtually everywhere, and that going to last in Season 2.
Still, it’s very likely that we will at least get teases of a love triangle; we noticed that already, most especially in Episode 9, together with Grey’s girlfriend Liz (Monica Barbaro) forcing him to confront his feelings for Dex, as Miles decided to talk to the P.I. about keeping things”professional.”
Plus, both Miles and Grey ended the season in this manner that we can view Dex getting involved in their own lives… which might easily lead to something occurring with either of them.
Miles turned in his badge after feeling like he”betrayed” it and Dex because of his attempts to help her investigation into what happened to Benny. “I need some time to determine what I am,” he informed his boss, Lieutenant Cosgrove (Camryn Manheim). But considering it’s difficult to imagine him not assisting individuals, he could wind up working with Dex in some capacity. If he will be off the force for very long, we do need to wonder.
Meanwhile, Grey’s dad Michael (Matt Craven) had not turned over a new leaf just like he’d expected, and Grey learned that he”did a job” and”took some things that did not belong to him” if he was in town. Because he took off, the guy he grabbed turned to Grey to help find him. And while he might not need to call Dex, because last time that he got into some trouble involving his previous, her brother Ansel (Cole Sibus) was set on the line of fire, she likely will become part of it.
But just because Stumptown could transfer the pieces into position for a love triangle, should it? If done right, it could bring some order into a region of the show that felt somewhat rugged; at times in Season 1, it felt just like the drama wasn’t quite sure what to do about Dex’s love life, and her interactions with Grey and Miles were plot, not character-dependent. A love triangle could keep that aspect a bit more consistent than it has been. (That does not mean Dex can’t possess other love interests, but this might at least bring some clarity to how everybody involved feels.)
If the series doesn’t take the obvious route, on the other hand, it would be refreshing. Allow Dex and Grey stay friends — their family works with no additional romantic part — or allow Dex and Miles pick it just didn’t work out between them (or both). Love triangles tend to just bring unnecessary drama, and frankly, Stumptowndoes not require that.
