The Matrix 4 Release Date, Cast, Plot And Upcoming Movie News

It has been a couple of months since it was revealed that another The Matrix movie was on the way, and now details regarding the fourth film in the franchise have started to trickle in.

It’s safe to assume that it’ll aim to stay true to the OG vibes, as Carrie-Anne Moss and Keanu Reeves are verified to be arriving as Trinity and Neo while information is relatively slim. Whether they’ll maintain their iconic black leather trench coats and sunglasses that are small, however, remains to be seen.

To keep you up to date, we have gathered all of the information we’ve got about The Matrix 4 and compiled it below, which should hopefully make your journey down the rabbit hole all the easier.

Who has been Cast in The Matrix 4?

As mentioned above, Carrie-Anne Moss and Keanu Reeves are set to reprise their roles as Trinity and Neo. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Mirror) has been confirmed to join the cast as young Morpheus, in addition to Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mom ), Priyanka Chopra (Baywatch), Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter), Andrew Caldwell (iZombie), Toby Onwumere (Sense8), Brian J. Smith (Stargate Universe), Eréndira Ibarra (Sense8), and Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones), who is expected to play a female Neo-like personality.

Jada Pinkett Smith is reportedly in talks but this hasn’t been verified.

However, Hugo Weaving aka Agent Smith will not make a comeback. In a recent interview, the actor explained he was approached for the role but had to turn it down due to a scheduling conflict. Read more on this here.

Who is directing The Matrix 4?

Lana Wachowski is helming The Matrix 4. She wrote and directed each of 3 previous Matrix movies The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions — together with her sister, Lilly. For the fourth, she co-wrote the script alongside writers Aleksandar Hemon (The Lazarus Project) and David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas).

What is The Matrix 4 release date?

The release date for The Matrix 4 will be May 21, 2021. Filming began in San Francisco in February 2020, even though manufacturing was forced to shut down on account of the coronavirus pandemic and a later fire was scheduled for Berlin in mid-March. Filming is expected to restart in Berlin in early July for now as eight-week extensions have been signed by the cast members. Fans are already sharing images and videos in the outdoor set, however, providing our first appearance at Keanu Reeves at the upcoming action movie.

What is The Matrix 4 about?

The plot details are unknown. But, it has been theorized that a Morpheus could appear in the film. At a quotation obtained by Variety, Wachowski stated, “A lot of the ideas [sister] Lilly [Wachowski] and I researched 20 years ago concerning our reality are even more relevant today. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my own life and grateful for another chance to work together with my brilliant friends”

What will The Matrix 4 be called?

It’s not yet known if The Matrix 4 will get a particular title. Previous films from the franchise have been The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions.

Perhaps the”R” theme will be continued in the next episode, providing us a title like A Matrix Resurrected or The Matrix Renaissance. The latter is perhaps the most fitting considering franchise supervisors that the Wachowskis produced The Animatrix, a Japanese animation film based on the first trilogy. The film accumulated nine shorts, two of which were titled The Second Renaissance Part I and The Second Renaissance Part II.
