Offered without reserve
RM Sotheby’s Elkhart Auction will be selling hundreds of pretty genius cars this year. Among them, the super cool Subaru 360 police car will be joined by the similarly nice Austin Mini Truck, built-in 1972.
The Mini Pickup was first launched back in 1961. And was based on the long Mini-Van model. And an open-top rear cargo area and a tailgate. So, it was described as a coupe utility with a length of 3.4 meters (11 feet). And a maximum weight of approximately 680 kilograms (1,500 pounds). Between 1961 and 1983, a total of 58,179 Mini Pickup models produced.
So, this specific example dates back to the early 1970s and has its original 1,275-cc four-cylinder engine with dual SU carburetors underneath the hood.
The four-speed manual gearbox produces 69 bhp (51 kilowatts) and 77 pound-feet (104 Newton-metres) of torque. Not necessarily entertaining. But the feeling behind the wheel expected a lot of fun.
Needless to mention, the car is in immaculate condition. And also has some good little improvements compared to the stock model. Of starters, the cargo bed lined with beautiful wooden panels. So, it also the location where the spare Pirelli tire stored.
The interior carpet in red. As featuring leather seats and a Mountney steering wheel. We’re on the fence over the Clarion radio with CD and Blaupunkt speakers. But they’re easy to delete and carry back the retro look of the cabin.
Again, the auction house doesn’t mention the approximate price of the Mini Pickup, but we know the seller doesn’t put it in reserve.
