2020 Long term study of Hyundai Veloster Turbo: Launch

This 2020 Hyundai Turbo Luxury Veloster, the newest addition to the long-term CarAdvice fleet. Less ‘amen’ than ‘welcome back,’ this unique two-tone example of ThunderBolt Yellow and Ghost Black makes a return to the CarAdvice garage. After gracing our appearance in October last year for a week’s analysis right. Around the time this new second-generation Veloster hit the showrooms.

The same car now parks its Michelins back on our turf with a still-daisy-fresh 4200 km on the clock. With about a just-run-in 2700 km on the odometer the last time it passed through our grubby mitts. So we intend to drive the mileage further out for the next six months. During our ownership of the pint-sized coupe.

This is the Veloster range’s all-you-can-eat flagship, ensuring that it’s not only the fastest (Turbo) and most lavishly decorated (Premium). But with its seven-speed (dry) dual-clutch transmission (auto). It gets the full SmartSense safety gear package. Even the self-shifting models receive the all-speed radar-based AEB system. With pedestrian identification and adaptive cruise control to improve other systems. Such as active lane-keeping and rear cross-traffic warning systems.

Yeah, that’s a serious coin for a little, warm-up vehicle. That said, with its considerable outlay, the stylized Koreanloads in a ton of regular gear:

18-inch speccy Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber wheels. A custom-made body package, LED (low-beam) headlights. And taillights, high-beam assists, electronic folding mirrors. Basic driver instrumentation, eight-way-powered. And heated/cooled leather sports seats, metal pedals, paddle shifters on fixed steering.

Sure, in a black forest cake, the top-dog Veloster layers are more sweetener than you can think, but bells and whistles alone are just half the pitch.

The big appeal is that it’s a smooth and funky sports coupe. She’d want to put down real deep grooves because the kind of money she wishes for provides a stunning variety of easy –and maybe faster–alternatives to small-stature.
