When Shazam April 2019 hit theaters in, it had been clear to everybody that Zachary Levi was perfectly cast as the bubble gum-chomping, floss-dancing tween-turned-superhero otherwise known as Billy Batson. Levi known for expressing Flynn Rider in Disney’s Tangled and for starring on NBC’s action-comedy Chuck, brought a mix of dramatic and comedic chops to the role, endearing himself to fans around the world. While the movie grossed just over $364 million pretty much considering how a lot of superhero franchises continue to perform in theatres it was a hit with critics and fans and more than recouped its $100 million funding that was reported.
After the movie struck down taking the number-one place at the box office in its opening weekend, TheWrap reported that a Shazam! A sequel was in the works.
Given that Shazam 2 is in the early stages of pre-production, not much is understood about the project thus far. In December 2019, an official release date was announced by Warner Bros. for Shazam! 2: April 1, 2022.
