Tesla, XPENG, and Changan Auto each reported key updates on December 30, 2025. Tesla hit a new production total from its Shanghai plant. XPENG revealed a new extended-range SUV. Changan Auto announced a large funding plan focused on its electric and smart vehicle programs.
Meanwhile, Tesla reported that its nine-millionth electric vehicle came off the line at its Shanghai Gigafactory. The milestone vehicle, a Model Y, was completed on December 30. It took the company just six months to go from eight million to nine million units.
Production speed has increased across Tesla’s global plants, with Shanghai playing a key role. The factory in China has now produced nearly half of Tesla’s total vehicles. Earlier this month, the site marked its own milestone — four million units built since opening.
Changan Auto Plans 6 Billion Yuan Share Sale
Chongqing Changan Automobile announced plans to issue shares to its indirect controlling shareholder, China Changan Automobile Group. The offering could raise up to 6 billion yuan. Proceeds will support work in new energy vehicles and digital systems.
About 4.5 billion yuan will go toward model development and smart platforms. The rest — 1.5 billion yuan — is planned for a new global R&D center. Shares are priced at 9.52 yuan each, with around 630 million shares to be issued. This would account for no more than 30% of the company’s current share capital. Final approval is still pending from the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
XPENG Shows G7 Super REEV with Over 1,700 km Range
XPENG introduced the G7 Super REEV, the first SUV under its Kunpeng extended-range series. The company says the vehicle can reach a combined driving range of 1,704 kilometers. The launch adds a new option in the extended-range segment.
The G7 comes with a fast-charging 800V battery system and uses XPENG’s in-house computing chip. The chip provides 2,250 TOPS of power for vehicle functions. While the Super REEV price is not yet available, the current all-electric G7 is priced from 195,800 to 225,800 yuan.
