It’s been a rough month for Wade Wilson fans eagerly anticipating Deadpool 3. Despite promises from Disney a new film with Ryan Reynolds is in evolution, Deadpool founder Rob Liefeld lately told Inverse that studio has”zero” plans to get a Deadpool 3 release date. However, a fresh clue from Disney’s executive chairman Bob Iger could show that the franchise is not as we thought, as canceled.
In the early May episode of Inverse Happy Hour, Liefeld voiced his disappointment with how Marvel Studios has managed Deadpool because Disney acquired the rights to the character after purchasing 20th Century Fox.
“Look, if they started creating Deadpool now, it would come out in four years,” he explained. “I can’t get excited about that. I believe that that’s the response… Know what their plan for Deadpool is right now? Goose egg. Zero. Zero!”
“I don’t know. Here’s what folks don’t want to hear, but thank God I’m a realist. I feel the films, like Deadpool, have set sail. We have two brilliant films, and we live in a civilization that always looks forward since all they’re ever selling us is’next.’ It is the fever.”
In a subsequent interview with io9, Liefeld doubled down, stating that Deadpool isn’t in Marvel’s five-year plan. He afterward hinted on Instagram that Disney might be moving forward on Deadpool 3 without his input whilst pointing out why this would be an error (cough Wolverine Origins cough).
With all that in mind, it came as a surprise when his Twitter banner image was updated by Bob Iger using a compilation of characters, including Mulan, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Buzz Lightyear, Baby Yoda, Iron Man, and Deadpool. On Reddit, fans were quick to dissect the picture for clues, while Rob Liefeld reposted it on Instagram using the caption,” Bob has a new header. I am doing the Lord’s work here people.
The timing here is hard to ignore, although as you can get f course, a single picture on Twitter is just as far from affirmation. Iger seems to be subtly stating that Deadpool is still a part of Disney’s cinematic plans, meaning Deadpool 3 may be in better shape than we believed. The reply of Liefeld also feels reassuring, suggesting his statements may have pushed at least or its aims to alter reaffirm its dedication.
Deadpool 3 still doesn’t have a release date, a title, or even confirmation that it is present, however, for the time being, Bob Iger’s Twitter upgrade is the ideal information Deadpool fans have gotten all month.
