Spied: Next-gen Mahindra Thar, with heavy camouflage.

We know how much Indians love their cars. And there’s a particular vehicle which is probably the most modified vehicle in India. Kids just love running beside it and adults, well they stare enough till it disappears in traffic. It’s Mahindra Thar and we’d probably see the next-gen soon. We couldn’t share the spied shots earlier, and we regret it. But now we are here with some shots and some crispy information. Hold onto something first.

Mahindra Thar next-gen got postponed due to Coronavirus and we didn’t get any news from the Indian manufacturers for dates in the future. But a source indicated that by October of this year, we might get to see the same.

Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra said in a meeting,

In my 41 years, I have not seen a challenge that we have seen in the last 3 months. Supply change disruptions started in mid-Feb. This lockdown and BS6 norms have had a big impact on business.”

The next-gen Mahindra Thar will be based on a completely new platform. It will be a bit longer and wider. This means the buyers will a spacious cabin after all. What will remain the same is the occurring similarity to the jeep shape. We will have more tech inside for sure. The next-gen might have a touchscreen display, at least a 10-inch one. Cruise control, a new instrument cluster, a new steering wheel, a nicer finished dash, and more comfortable seats. About seats, we might get front-facing seats for rear passengers will also be offered in the upcoming Thar.

From the outside, the exterior on the spied pictures shows the same slats on the front fascia. The bumper was redesigned and was fitted with foglights. The hardtop version may also be offered, of course, it will be the top variant. Followed by soft tops for the lower variants.

The engine will be a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel unit generating 140Bhp and 300Nm of peak torque. This will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, as the control remains to the shift of a stick. A 4×4 transfer case, for those who want to take their Thar for an off-road run. A new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine might also be available upon launch, but with an automatic transmission.
