It’s been over a decade, 12 years to be exact since we have last seen adventurer archaeologist in action. Indiana Jones 5 was in talks for a long time, and there were rumours about rebooting the franchise. Finally, in 2017, Indiana Jones 5 was officially announced, and the production work was scheduled to begin in this year. Since the announcement many things have changed, initially, Steven Spielberg was going to direct the movie, but now he is replaced by the James Mangold of Logan fame. However, he will remain in the project as the producer. Let’s sum up all the details we have about the Indiana Jones Crystal Skull sequel.
We can’t imagine anyone else donning the role of Indiana Jones apart from Harrison Ford. In his exact words “When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy. Get it in [your head].” Thankfully he will return again to reprise his iconic role. We have a sigh of relief that Shia LaBeouf, who played Indy and Marion’s son Mutt is not involved. John Rhys-Davies expressed his desire to return in his iconic role, much-loved character Sallah if there is something meaningful. Mark Hamill, Star Wars fame expressed his desire yo play the role of the main villain.
Initially, George Lucas was in talks for the project. But Koepp is back after the disastrous Indiana Jones Kingdom of Skull Crystal. Disney was quiet about the initial delay, but behind the scenes, Jonathan Kasdan was reported to have joined the production to rewrite Koepp’s script and he is writing script for the sequel. Jonathan Kasdan that it will not be a reboot. Possibly it will be set after the twelve years of the Indiana Jones 4.
For so long official release date for the Indiana Jones, 5 was July 9 2021. But in response to current circumstances, it has been pushed back to 29 July 2021 by Disney.
Keeping in mind that initially it was supposed to be released on July 5, 2018, shooting for the sequel was expected to begin in 2020. It seems that the new official date(2022) is understandable and it won’t be much surprised if the release date would be pushed back again.
