The current generation of the car was launched in 2016 and was rapidly named the European Car of the Year. But for three years on the market is more than enough for a vehicle, a facelift version for that generation was shown in July 2019.
The Opel Astra’s dynamic chassis has been further developed. New shock absorbers increase comfort.Â
Engine:
The 2020 Opel Astra car model comes equipped with 2 gasoline engines and 1 1 diesel, offering separate power outputs. A new transmission mode also makes its debut at Opel on the Astra. The gasoline range comprises a 1.2-litre and one 1.4-litre engine. The former comes in three power ratings (110 hp, 130 hp, and 145 hp) while the latter develops 145 hp. On the diesel side, the 1.5-litre pack either 105 or 145 hp. It is this engine that can be paired to the 9-speed automatic transmission we mentioned earlier.
Exterior:
Although when looked at side by side the 2016 version and the facelift seem pretty much the same, some original fittings and the shaping of the engine compartment cover, rear axle control arms and full-face shutter, the drag coefficient levels have been improved.
The hatchback version of the Astra comes with a drag coefficient of 0.26, the same as the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe, while the wagon Astra is on par with the Tesla Model X with a drag coefficient of 0.25.
Interior:
The interior layout of the facelift Astra remains the same as in the generation it replaces, the space for passengers and cargo remains the same, and no investment was made in coming up with new materials. There are, however, a few innovations worth mentioning.
First, there’s the addition of new seats in the front, that can be specified with both ventilation and a massage function.
The Navi Pro is optional and relies on an 8-inch touchscreen and can be operated by using one’s voice. Also optional is the seven-speaker Bose sound system. New to the Astra range is the introduction of a digital speedometer and wireless charger in the centre console. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto agreeable are also available.
Review:
The range of safety features in the new Astra is the same as before, and they include the latest in driver assistance systems: adaptive cruise control, following distance indicator, forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition and lane keep assist, among others.
