Ape Electrik: Piaggio’s First Ever Electric Three-Wheeler In India Launched

Piaggio & C. SpA  is an Italian motor vehicle manufacturer, which produces a range of two-wheeled motor vehicles and compact commercial vehicles under seven brands: Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi, and Scarabeo. The company’s corporate headquarter is located in Pontedera, Italy.

The company was founded initially by Rinaldo Piaggio in 1884, which at that time was well known for the production of locomotives and railway carriages in the country.

According to estimated records, the company employs a total of 7,053 employees workers and produced a total of 5,19,700 vehicles in 2014. The three wheeler manufacturer also has six research-and-development centres in more than 50 countries.

So now taking about the latest news about the company, Piaggio has recently launched its first electric three-wheeler named as the Ape Electrik, two days ago in India, at Pune based launch event held by the company itself.

The new three-wheeler model is launched at a very introductory and economical price of 1.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). According to the sources from the company, the new range of electric Ape three-wheelers will be offered in various categories i.e. both passenger and goods segment in India.

With the latest interaction of company’s spokesperson to the media person said, “The Piaggio Ape E-City being the first product launched under the Ape’s Electrik range model, will be the first ever E-auto in India which will come with a swappable battery technology.

The technical specification of the new e-Auto is, that the model powered by a 4.7 kWh lithium-ion battery and it can offer around 70-80 km range on a full charge.

Especially designed for the countries needs and for a long lasting mobility solution for Indian driving conditions, to stand till the last time, even with maximum load. As discussed above, the company’s Ape E-City range of electric autos come with an advanced swappable Li-ion batteries technology.

As per the documents and reports provided by the company, the swappable battery is sourced from electric battery provider, mainly Sun mobility, which will also provide a Quick Interchange Station network which will enable Piaggio Customers to just Swap and Go in a few minutes.

Customers can also experience an app-enabled eco-system to check battery charge, recharge, locate swap stations in the mobile application which will be provided by the company to the customers.
