It has been 20 years since Will Smith and Martin Lawrence first combined forces to fight crime in Bad Boys. But past August, Sony announced its movie schedule for 2017 and included a notable future release: Bad Boys 3 will premiere on Feb. 17, based on that list. While Smith and Lawrence haven’t verified that they will reprise their respective roles as detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, the movie’s IMDb page lists equally as celebrities (noting that Smith’s involvement is, at present,” rumored”).
As Collider reported in October, Smith strongly suggested that the movie would hit theaters on time. “There’s a very, very, very strong probability that you will be seeing a Bad Boys over the next 12 to 16 months,” he told Beats 1 Radio, Collider reported. He didn’t explain whether he is going to act in the movie.
Director and manufacturer: The two Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 have been directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. For Bad Boys 3, it looks like a few changes are being created. Nothing is set in stone yet, but rumor has it that Joe Carnahan, whose most recent credits include The Grey (2011), The A-Team (2010), and Smokin’ Aces (2006), will replace Bay as a manager for the next film in the Bad Boys series. Bay has been cranking out Transformers films since 2007, together with the fifth slated for 2017, according to a sparse IMDb webpage.
Writer: David Guggenheim, of Safe House (2012), Stolen (2012), and as-yet-unreleased Weaponized, is reportedly writing the screenplay for Bad Boys 3.
Stars: Lawrence at least seems set to play Burnett from the third installment, since there’s no”rumored” caveat next to his title on the IMDb page. The general assumption appears to be that he”has already been confirmed for the third installment of this activity franchise,” based on this International Business Times.
It’s Smith the world is currently waiting on. According to Slashfilm, Bruckheimer clarified the actor’s battle on a busy schedule: “It’s so funny because we will get Sony real excited to create the movie, and then Will [Smith] is off doing two films. And, Will will return and be really excited about it, and Sony will say,’ Well, maybe it is not the time for this'” Regardless of whether he behaves in the movie, Smith’s involvement as a producer, at least, is certain. But how can he say?
Fans will not have to wait for another 12 years to the follow-up to 2017’s film. When Sony released its 2017 program, it also put Bad Boys 4 about the docket. Look out for it.
Based on ComingSoon.net, the first Bad Boys movie earned $66 million in the USA and $141 million internationally; 2003’s Bad Boys 2 worked on a far larger budget, grossing $138 million in the house and $278 million around the globe.
