BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR launching in India on 21 May

BMW has recently announced two new bikes to be launched in India on 21 May.

BMW Motorrad India has announced that the F 900 R and the F 900 XR motorcycles will be launched in the country. With the aim to strengthen their game in the middleweight range, BMW is looking to launch new motorcycles too.

The BMW F 900R is a naked roadster. While F 900 XR is a sport-touring motorcycle. But they both share the same engine as well as the platform. What differentiates them is the different design combined with distinctive riding dynamics. As mentioned earlier, BMW had lacked a naked roadster for the Indian market, so F 900 R could be the most suited one. It would be a direct rival to the likes of the KTM 790 Duke, Kawasaki Z900, Triumph Street Triple S, and the Ducati Monster 821.

The both BMW’s have an 895 cc parallel-twin engine with a maximum power output of 105 PS at 8,500 rpm. And 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The power is varied by a 6-speed transmission. The engine is an upgrade to 853 cc parallel-twin, which sits inside BMW F 750 GS and the BMW F 850 GS.

The body features shared by both is the same as well. At the front-end, the motorcycles have fixed 43 mm gold-finished upside-down forks with 135 mm travel. While the rear-end comes suspended on a hydraulically adjustable mono-shock with 170 mm travel.

While the roadster already has many competitors, the sport tourer seems to be the lone wolf in the segment.
