Honda 2Wheelers India introduced the stock, drum brake-equipped version of the BS6-compliant Shine 125 at Rs 67.857. That’s about 7,000 more Rs than the drum brake variant that is compliant with BS4. The Honda Shine 125 BS6, equipped with a disk brake, will set you back Rs 72,557.
The new Honda Shine 125 is powered by an all-new single-cylinder 125cc fuel-injected engine which develops 10.7hp at 7500rpm and 11Nm at 6000rpm. Such numbers are slightly higher than the engine of the BS4 Shine, which produced 10.3hp at 7500rpm and 10.30Nm at 5500rpm. The engine is combined with a new5-speed transmission.
Although Honda claims the BS6 engine provides a 14 percent better fuel economy than the BS4 engine, the new low-rolling-resistance rear tire could also contribute to this improvement.
As with most BS6 updates these days, the Honda Shine 125 is also getting a slew of new features to justify the steep price hike. The new Shine gets a silent starting system (Honda speak ACG starter), which eliminates the need for a conventional start. We saw this new system at work in the new Honda SP125 which we recently tested.
Furthermore, the current Shine also gets a Stop / Start engine turn, a handy feature that the outgoing iteration ignored. The switchgear is new, and it looks like the previous Shine 125 is a step above the crude and aging switches. Other features include a new instrument cluster and a headlight unit with halogen running on DC power.
Honda has also tweaked the new Shine 125’s appearance by adding various graphics. A new-design tail-lamp, black alloys and generous chrome smatterings to the visor, side panels, and exhaust.
Honda has modified the chassis under the refreshed design by extending the wheelbase by 19 mm. Ground clearance also grew by 5 mm. The length of the seat has also extended by 27 mm. Which Honda says designed to improve comfort over the long distance.
The new Shine 125 is available as standard with a 3-year warranty. With the option of extending it by an additional three years, paying a small premium. Bookings for the new Honda Shine 125 have started throughout Indian dealerships.
