This is an important week for the Spanish brand Cupra. The SEAT spin-off is tasked with creating performance versions of the cars once released by the mother company. Cupra released three different performance cars in a single day- two meant for the track and one for the road.
The Cupra Leon is a beefed-up 310 hp road version of the SEAT Leon launched previous month. But its not this car that is stealing the show. It was the other two that took the center stage because they were both incredibly powerful and still bought something new to the racing industry.
The e-Racer
The e-Racer is a car based on the Volkswagen MQB Evo platform. It is the first that we knw of that has been designed specifically for the new racing series ETCR (electric touring car racer). Being dedicated specifically for electric cars, the competition will have its inaugural season next year.
A 65 kWh battery powers the Cupra’s entry, feeding four electric motors. They produce 680 ps and 960 Nm torque when combined. The car can go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds. The top speed is 270 kph.
The Competicion
Based on the road version of the Leon, the Competicion is using the same 2.0 L gasoline engine that powers the former. But the thing is that it is a tuned version. It can now develop 340 ps and 410 Nm of torque making it capable of going from 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds. The Competicion is to be on the starting grid of the TCR series or Endurance races. It will be the first car in its class to be offered for sale online. Deliveries will begin in April.
