Swamp Thing is an American superhero horror web television series created by Gary Dauberman and Mark Verheiden for DC Universe and based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Derek Mears portrays the eponymous Swamp Thing, a plant-elemental creature who fights malevolent forces around a Louisiana swamp with the help of medical doctor Abby Arcane.
The series first premiered on May 31, 2019, and consisted of 10 episodes. And here is everything you need to know about season 2.
Sadly Swamp Thing will not be seeing a second season and reasons are still unknown.
Despite having been cancelled for several months, no official reason has been given for why Warner Bros. chose to cancel Swamp Thing. It has been confirmed that it had nothing to do with funding issues relating to grants from the state of North Carolina not paying out.
It has also been established that it had nothing to do with the series content being too strange or the entire DC Universe streaming service being shut down and its content is moved to HBO Max, as Doom Patrol was recently renewed for a second season and is planned to air on both services.
The makers did not reveal the storyline but the show was reportedly intended to sprout several spin-offs, including a Justice League Dark series featuring several magically-empowered heroes from the darker side of DC Comics. Swamp Thing took several steps in this direction in the episodes which aired, introducing the character of the Phantom Stranger as well as the psychic Madame Xanadu.
For now the show has been cancelled but stay tuned for further information.
