One of the most successful industries in India, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, formerly known as Maruti Udyog Limited, is an automobile manufacturer in India.
As per the reports of July 2018, the company had a market share of 53% of the Indian passenger car market. The company is headquartered at New Delhi.
So talking about the latest news from the company, Maruti Suzuki has recently marked a trademarked regarding the first upcoming electric car from the company Futuro-E, which is likely to be unveiled at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020.
According to the sources, the EV will be based on companies popular WagonR hatchback. Details of the electric hatchback are not revealed by the company at this moment, but the automaker might launch this car with a range of around 150-200 km, which will enough to cater the needs of enough of the commuters in the town.
The electric hatchback is likely to come with a fast-charging technology as well, to match a healthy competition to Nexon EV by Tata. With this model, Maruti Suzuki will enter the Indian EV market where other car brands like Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai have already stepped in.
It is expected that the Indian EV market expected to grow to $2 billion by Financial Year 2023, and Maruti Suzuki being the largest stakeholder in the domestic car segment.
The Futuro-E is going to be the automaker’s first footstep in the future goal. Rumours suggest that the Maruti Suzuki’s EV Futuro-E is expected to be based on the international market-spec WagonR and the design would be similar to the standard hatchback.
The exterior of the model will be highlighted by projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights along with it LED taillights as well.
Maruti Suzuki is yet to disclose details of the car. This model is likely to come with the option to be charged using a regular 15A socket and a DC fast charger as well.
The powertrain and drivetrain of the model is not yet known. The Expect price of the Maruti Suzuki Futuro-E electric hatchback is expected to be between Rs 7-10 lakh (ex-showroom).
