GM Introduces New Branding For GMC Hummer EV

They say first impressions last, and when the brand of the Hummer was actually under the control of GM. Three versions were introduced that sought to scratch an itch that was possibly best left unnoticed. Yeah, so let’s just accept that the H1 was pretty damn near the Humvee that we all loved; strong, tough and unpolluted.

Yet all after that was an experiment in either poor timing or poor marketing; nobody needed a truck that followed the same ideals in a more aware or “responsive” setting. Fast forward to early 2020, and GMC has just revealed that it will make a return to the Hummer brand, albeit in an environmentally friendly way.

The GMC Hummer EV will be eligible on the BT1 EV platform of GM as a pickup truck and SUV. Expect fast-charging of up to 350 kW at 800V and an average overall 400 miles per cycle. If all goes to schedule, the electric Hummer debuts in full on May 20 ahead of its fall 2021 on-sale date. It will deliver more than 1,000 horsepower. And produce a recorded torque of 11,500 pound-feet, allowing it to reach 60 miles in around 3.0 seconds an hour.

So, gone is the old, blocky style that incorporates a more chiseled and modernized “take on the logo. Today, it looks more forward-thinking and technology-oriented, hinting at the EV architecture and innovations that yet to completely unveiled.
