In April-February 2020, Suzuki stand-out winner

Despite all the red ink that splattered over the sales records of the Indian two-wheeler market. There’s one company bucking the slowdown: Suzuki Motorcycle India.

India Auto Inc. has been in dire straits for the first 11 months of its new fiscal year. Total car sales of 20,498,128 units year on year was down 15.85 percent. Both segments and sub-segments of vehicles, excluding Utility Vehicles and M&HCV buses, are in the red due to a variety of factors including the protracted economic recession, the transition to BS6 and the subsequent price rise.

The two-wheeler category. The most inexpensive motoring medium in the world, also badly affected at 16,550,770 units. Which reflects a sharp decline of 16.15 percent.

While scooters are down 16.01% YoY (5.302.858 units), bikes are down as well, down 15.63% YoY (10.643.780 units). Also badly damaged was the humble moped, of which TVS Motor Co is India’s sole manufacturer: 604,132 units(-25,37 percent).

Solo player Suzuki among 13 OEMs to record growth

Look at the specifics of sales and market share below, so you can see how much the impact two-wheeler OEMs have suffered in the last 11 months. But narrow down your Suzuki quest and you’ll see that documenting development is the only business among 13 two-wheeler OEMs.

With sales of 6.51.293 units in the period April 2019-February 2020. Suzuki not only reported growth but also raised its two-wheeler market share to almost 4 percent.

What has earned Suzuki the charge is its scooter portfolio’s splendid results, led by the Suzuki Access 125. The brand would have done much better if only the bikes had the same appeal to customers as the scooters.

With scooters (6,15,898 units) accounted for 94.56 percent of Suzuki’s total two-wheeler revenue. Access 125 is obviously the company’s game-changing model. And has helped drive the company’s scooter market share from 8.83 percent a year earlier to 11.61 percent.

The remaining six scooter manufacturers in the country (Bajaj Auto, with his Chetak, has just joined the fray). Also, it reported disappointing sales. Suzuki has gone ahead of Hero MotoCorp (7.08 percent) in terms of market share. And is now third in the pecking order, behind leader Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (56.64 percent) and TVS Motor Co (18.61 percent).
