Lewis Hamilton: officially crowned 2019 F1 champion at star-studded FIA awards gala

Lewis Hamilton has formally crowned the 2019 F1 world champion after being handed the Drivers’ Championship trophy.

Lewis Hamilton became the second driver in the sport’s history to win six names – and requires only one more to match Michael Schumacher‘s record.

Hamilton’s achievement was celebrated following the British superstar had rounded off this year’s effort by clinching victory from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

And after hammering throughout another magnificent season behind the wheel for Mercedes, Hamilton declared his accomplishments on and off as ‘the best’ of his livelihood.

Hamilton closing on record but wary of 2020 rivals

He said, “It has been the best year I’d say of my career I’m really proud of what we have achieved as a group”.

“The season was as strong as the past I could recall. So in the outside being more joyful”.

“Happier with the group in cooperation, in terms of staff work, the doors that I have opened in terms of doing the style that I have been well received and accepted”

Team-mate Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen were also awarded trophies after the duo finished second and third in the ranks.

After stringing together six successive championship triumphs, Mercedes also made history of the own.

And since joining the constructor that was prestigious at 2013, Hamilton has missed out on just two titles.

The reigning winner will have to choose whether to stay together with Hamilton’s contract set to expire after next year, with Mercedes, and rumors are circulating of a potential change to Ferrari.
