We’ve already seen prototypes for the upcoming 400bhp-plus Audi RS 3 Sportback model. But this recent production mule spied on by our photographers. And confirms that a four-door saloon version will soon be added to the lineup.
Spotted winter and cold weather testing ahead of its introduction at the end of 2020. The photographs reveal that the RS 3 saloon will have the same high-performance modifications. As its hatchback sibling to help set it apart from smaller versions in the all-new A3 series.
At the front, this ensures that there is a deep bumper with additional airflow across the current single frame grid. So, it is important to boost the cooling of the engine and the braking in the hot hatch. We can see that this is the full-fat RS 3 most distinctly at the back. Here the rear diffuser supported by two wide oval tailpipes-a trademarks of the Audi RS series.
Unlike the doors, the total dimensions of the new RS 3 saloon will not change significantly from its predecessor. That’s because the car is based on a modified version of the original MQB platform.
A 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder petrol engine. Expect the new model to blast past the 400bhp mark this time to help keep up with the outgoing Mercedes-AMG CLA 45. With the drive sent to all four wheels, this will give the RS 3 saloon a 0-62 mph sub-four second speed.
The interior of the new RS 3 has yet to reveal, but the cabin will feature the regular RS upgrades:
RS-exclusive seats, carbon fiber trim smattering and exclusive specification menus and graphics for both the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit cockpit interface and the 10.1-inch infotainment screen. Prices start at about £ 50,000 before they go on sale.
