AB Dynamics has released a new version of its Guided Soft Target platform, the GST 120 Plus. This update is designed to support changes in Euro NCAP’s 2026 safety test protocols. The new platform keeps the same chassis and footprint as the existing GST 120, but introduces a faster top speed, better braking, and higher energy capacity.

The GST 120 Plus is the first ADAS test platform that can reach 130 km/h. This makes it the only option currently available that meets the speed requirements for Euro NCAP’s new high-speed rear-end collision tests. AB Dynamics stated that no other platform currently on the market reaches this level of performance.

The system is fitted with new brushless motors and revised gearing. These upgrades, along with a 13% increase in battery capacity, allow it to reach 80 km/h in under 130 metres. This is important for carrying out precise and repeatable crash testing at higher speeds.

Same Chassis, Upgraded Components

GST 120 Plus has internal system changed but still has the same chassis and external design as GST 120. This assists test centres to implement the new platform without having to alter the existing setups and layouts.

The site has a platform that provides the Soft Car 360 foam target that is reinforced to bear the impact at increased velocities. It also has the same size and shape externally, which facilitates intertest consistency. The wheels too have anti-lock braking and this enhances the stability of the wheels also minimizing the stopping distance when the test run.

Supports Wider Range of Test Scenarios

Euro NCAP’s 2026 test update includes more than 1,200 scenarios. These include not just straight rear-end impacts, but also offset crashes, vehicles crossing into other lanes, and other real-world driving conditions. The GST 120 Plus has been built to handle these types of tests.

Dr Andrew Pick, Business Director of Track Test Systems at AB Dynamics, said:

“The upcoming Euro NCAP 2026 protocols represent some of the biggest changes since the ratings scheme was introduced.”

He noted that while the original GST 120 met the earlier needs of Euro NCAP, today’s testing standards demand more from equipment.

Remote Control and Onboard Storage

The GST 120 Plus includes remote operation through a laptop, allowing teams to run tests from a safe distance. It also includes local data storage, which makes it easier to collect and review information after each test.

The platform is now available to automotive test facilities and manufacturers preparing for Euro NCAP’s updated testing requirements. AB Dynamics says the GST 120 Plus will help customers stay aligned with the coming safety standards without needing to overhaul their test infrastructure.
