When BMW plans for the next-generation 7 Series earlier this year, they promise to offer its flagship model with a diesel engine and gasoline. Including a fully electric variant.
It may seem it will be the same story with the M4 Series as M4 / M4 Competition will dethrone by the i4 in terms of output.
According to a report, which claims the road-going i4 will have a dual motor setup with 523 hp. So approximately, 600 pound-feet i.e. 813 Newton-meters.
BMW has not revealed the car yet, but the inline-six may deliver in the region of 503 hp. That means only 20 hp less than i4, but the significant difference will be torque.
Whereas, i4 claims to have a roughly 600 pound-feet i.e. 813 Newton-meters. The M4 Competition specification will have to make do with 442 lb-ft provided number will be carried from the X4 M Competition.
The twin-turbocharged 3.0 liters S58 unit will offer the full amount from 2,600 rpm in the X4 M Competition.
However, with all the EVs, the added bulk is an issue since the battery pack will heavily impact the i4 curb weight. So consequently it will affect the handling and other characteristics important to BMW enthusiasts.
BMW claims to the concept may do 0-62 mph in just four seconds. So the production car going to be impressively quick despite the extra weight it will carry around.
The electric Gran Coupe will exclusively come with Drive. Since one of the motors will drive the front wheels whereas the other will power the rear axle. A large 80-kWh battery will have enough juice for 373 miles i.e. 600 kilometers per WLTP. This is likely less than that based on EPA’s tougher cycle.
It may seem BMW is also planning an M4 Gran Coupe to serve the same as the i4’s conventionally powered counterpart.
