Spy Shots of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT

Mercedes AMG is preparing a new plug-in hybrid version of the GT 4-Door Coupe. Spy shots show a prototype of the AMG sedan. It has a concealed flap on its rear fascia, located just below the tail-light on the right. The corresponding rear fender has a regular filler cap.

As a preview of the GT 4-door coupe, the Mercedes bowed in 2017. It packed a powerful electrified V-8 under the hood of the striking show outside. Until now, such a powerful terrain has not taken shape. But that is about to change now. AMG has already teased it, which means a debut later this year.

Packing an Electrifying Performance?

The GT-4 will be positioned as the range-topper electric sedan, along with Porsche’s Panamera and Cayenne’s plug-in versions. Expect the AMG to be called something along the lines of GT 73 EQ Performance 4-Door Coupe. EQ is the new performance label of Mercedes-Benz’s EQ sub-brand for electrified cars. It also features the automaker’s latest Formula One car.

The specs of the AMG are not confirmed. But rumors point to the power-terrain copying the original GT. AMG said the concept features a 4.0 L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. Thus making it capable of driving the car on its own.

Although any GT 4-Door coupe plug-in hybrid will weigh more than the GT 63 S, it should easily outrun it if it packs anything like 805 hp. Such an output can enable the super sedan to go to 62 mph in 3.0 seconds. The GT 63 S has been clocked at 3.2 seconds.

The plug-in hybrid systems will filter to other high-end models in the AMG lineup, which will fill in for the previous V-12 option. The price range can be in the premium range. The AMG GT already starts at $159,995. For this kind of money, buyers can also opt for Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
