On May 10, Silva, a very popular influencer, tattoo artist, and reality star (he was on season 10 of Ink Master) was out partying with one of his best friends, Corey La Barrie, a YouTuber famous in his own right. Both had been drinking when they got into Silva’s 2020 McLaren 600LT for the drive home.
Silva was at the wheel, the LAPD says in a press release. Not only was he driving under the influence, but he was going “at a high rate of speed,” losing control of the vehicle on Houston Street in North Hollywood. He ran off the road and crashed into a stop sign and a tree.
The passenger side took the brunt of the impact. La Barrie, who had just turned 25 that day, received life-threatening injuries and later gave up the ghost at the hospital.
“The driver of the McLaren exited the vehicle and attempted to go away the scene but was stopped by citizens who came to render aid. No other vehicles were involved within the collision,” the LAPD says.
Silva was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries and was later charged with murder, with his bail set at $2,000,000.
“Drivers are reminded to obey the principles of the road and to drive at a secure speed,” the LAPD says, using the newest accident to sound the alarm on reckless driving. “Speed kills and reckless driving puts other innocent bystanders in peril also. If you’re involved during a collision, you ought to steer and stop as soon because it is safe to try to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify yourself.”
