The first Venom standalone film was a lovable mess. The bar for an onscreen Venom was set fairly low (yes, we all remember Spider-Man 3), however, Tom Hardy’s comedic performance and solid box-office functionality made a powerful case for another movie. Luckily enough, we’re going to have to see Tom Hardy take up the symbiote mantle once more at a sequel to Venom.
Following a botched, then revised, the deal between Disney and Sony that booted Spider-Man out of their Marvel Cinematic Universe before dragging him back, the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters (SUMC, for short) was heralded as the potential future of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. It looks like it may be Venom’s time to shine following his critically panned debut. This is everything we understand about Venom 2 up to now.
When will Venom 2 hit theaters?
Venom two was supposed to emerge in October 2020, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, its launch was delayed to June 25, 2021. Before that, however, Sony has another SUMC release: Morbius, a standalone movie for its Spider-man vampire villain of the identical name. Will hit theaters March 19, 2021, and can be led by Daniel Espinosa.
Who will be in the sequel’s cast?
Tom Hardy will of course return as Eddie Brock. It’s unclear if he will dip himself into a tub of lobsters now round, however, Hardy is guaranteed to bring the same charm that made Venom humor to its sequel. Michelle Williams is set to return Eddie’s ex-fiancée, Anne Weying.
As promised via Venom’s mid-credits scene, Woody Harrelson will star as longtime Venom villain Cletus Kasady, a serial killer that will finally become the symbiote villain known as Carnage.
Additionally sure to return is Venom’s extremely long tongue.
Past that, no cast statements have been created for its sequel. There have been wishful rumors of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man making an appearance in a Venom movie; it appears unlikely while possible.
Does Venom 2 have an official title?
Yes! The movie previously called Venom 2 is officially titled Venom: Let There be Carnage, which sounds sick and suggests that Harrelson’s Carnage will play a huge role in it. The new title was announced by Sony in April through the movie above.
What’s the plot of Venom 2?
With Riz Ahmed’s Carlton Drake (who eventually fused with the symbiote Riot) from the picture afterward, uh, bursting within a spaceship towards the end of the first movie, Eddie and Venom’s first nemesis will probably not be back. Fortunately, Venom’s mid-credits scene was a strong, bankable indicator as to who is going to fill the villain emptiness in the sequel.
Woody Harrelson’s character Cletus Kasady was revealed in the scene. Brock, once more working as a journalist, interviews Kasady, a captured serial killer. It’s creepy as hell, but there’s not much to go from plot-wise other than Kasady’s promise that, “Once I get from here and I will there’s likely to be carnage.”
That point is a reference that affirms Kasady’s identity. In the comics, he unifies with a symbiote called Carnage, a kind of”offspring” which Venom shed after while breaking Brock out of prison. Carnage bonds on a level with Kasady, developing skills that are violent that even Venom doesn’t possess. It’s unsure how much Carnage and Kasady’s narrative is going to be pulled from the source material for Venom two, however, we could be sure that it is going to bloody and barbarous as all get out.
Deadline also reports that, according to two sources near the undertaking, comic book villain Shriek has been also incorporated into the storyline of Venom 2. A Sony spokesperson declined to comment, stating that the job remains in its early stages. Shriek is a drug dealer named Frances Barrison, whose severe injury caused her mutant powers which include flight sonic blasts, and also the capacity to incite emotions to emerge. She’s the accomplice and love attention of both Carnage, so her addition to the sequel is logical. Currently, Naomie Harris (Moonlight) is in discussions to star in the role.
Who’s involved with Venom 2?
In August, Sony declared that legend turned filmmaker Andy Serkis would direct the sequel. Famous for his role as Gollum from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Serkis takes over for Venom director Ruben Fleischer, who was presumed to likely lead to the sequel but rather directed the 2019 movie Zombieland two. The script has been written by Kelly Marcel, who had been part of the composing team for Venom. Matt Tolmach, Avi Arad, and Amy Pascal are generating.
Is this the last Venom film?
The brief answer: it is uncertain. Tom Hardy is signed onto a three-picture contract with Sony. Given the commercial success of this film and Sony’s plans for its Marvel characters, if the sequel does nicely Venom 3 doesn’t appear out of the realm of chance.
