Another new sustainability initiative by Volvo Car India is a new plantation drive in the Aravalli range. As part of its Reverse Project, the company has declared that it will help in massive planting of trees around Gurugram. The program is in line with the corporate social responsibility objectives of the current financial year.

Volvo Car India affirmed that over 20,000 native trees will be planted in 20-acre degraded land. The location of the site is Matri Van along Gurugram Faridabad Highway in Haryana. The implementation of the project is being done with SankalpTaru Foundation and the Haryana Forest Department.

Expansion of the Reverse Project in the Aravalli Range

The plantation is located as a part of Community Barren Land Transformation Project of the Aravalli range. The region serves as a natural barrier to desertification and dust air in the air to the Delhi NCR. Subsequently, the viability of vegetation and soil stability has been decreased however, by long-term quarrying and urban development.

Moreover, Matri Van region is semi-arid and has a low water supply. Natural regeneration of the area has been restricted by soil erosion and de-vegetated plant cover. The project is meant to re-establish forest cover by planting native species.

Volvo Car India stated that participants will receive two to three geo-tagged saplings. These saplings will be planted and monitored on behalf of participants. Thus, digital tracking is expected to improve transparency and long-term plant survival.

Use of Technology and Community Participation

All saplings planted under the initiative will be geo-tagged for location tracking. IoT-based systems will be used to monitor plant health and growth. Data collected will support maintenance planning and survival assessments.

Community participation is included through local engagement programs. Residents and volunteers will be involved in site upkeep and awareness activities. The approach is intended to support long-term care of the plantation area.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, commented on the initiative. She said, “The Matri Van plantation reflects our long-term commitment towards a greener future.” She also noted that sustainability remains central to the company’s operations in India.

Role of Partners and Environmental Objectives

SankalpTaru Foundation is spearheading the ground work of plantation. The company concentrates on afforestation initiatives of biodiversity in India. It is collaborating with the state authorities to provide regulatory compliance and the protection of the site.

Additionally, Apurva Bhandari, Founder of SankalpTaru Foundation, spoke about the collaboration. He said the project uses technology and planning to restore degraded Aravalli land. He added that partnerships help scale climate-focused restoration efforts.

The plantation will include climate-resilient native tree species. These species are selected to support soil health and groundwater recharge. The restored forest is also expected to aid local biodiversity over time. Volvo Car India has operated in the country since 2007. The company currently sells vehicles through 25 dealerships across major cities. The Aravalli plantation continues its environmental programs beyond urban locations.
