Being a Lucifer fan has ever felt like a rollercoaster journey. The season was canceled, after broadcasting Fox for 3 seasons, but that wasn’t the devilish show’s end. Instead, it was picked up by Netflix for a fifth and fourth season. Last year, Netflix declared that Lucifer Season 5 is the last, but there are inklings of a potential sixth season even before Season 5’s release.

Fans have been patiently waiting for Lucifer Season 5 to strike Netflix, however, they might be waiting a while longer. There hasn’t been much news on when the series will pick up with filming after Hollywood-wide production shutdowns in March from what we’ve heard there’s not much left to shoot.

Season 4 only had a ten-episode sequence, but Netflix expanded the episode count for Lucifer Season 5, giving the series a total of 16 episodes. The season, according to series star Tom Ellis, could be divided into two. Here Is What he told The Kelly Clarkson Show during a set visit last October:

“Season 5 of Lucifer is going to be split into two halves. Netflix is gonna fall eight episodes after which there’s gonna be a small break, and they’re gonna drop the following eight episodes.”

Lucifer stopped Season 4 with the major character returning to his post as King of Hell following several demons escaped and persuaded him to return. Lucifer moved back into his responsibilities, primarily to prevent should find his true love. By this stage in the show, Lucifer Morningstar understood he could be a good man and had admitted his romantic feelings for Chloe Decker.

Fans should expect Season 5 to pick up where Season 4 left, although no significant plot details are confirmed. Discussing with TVLine, Lucifer showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson said they understand what Season 5’s introductory order will probably be and have known since Season 4. What’s more, Modrovich added:

“We have one other, very fun toy to play with, that we know will be a large directing factor in Season 5, so we’re excited about that, also.”
It’s obscure but intriguing.

The principal cast — Tom Ellis, Lauren German, D.B. Woodside, Aimee Garcia, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, and Rachael Harris — are set to come back in Season 5.
