Xiaomi’s electrical appliance and smartphone manufacturer has launched two new electric mopeds in China. With prices beginning at USD420 (approx. Rs 32,000). Those lightweight electric mopeds called the A1 and A1 Pro. So, these are essentially the same save for the expanded battery capacity and touchscreen instrument panel of the Pro.
The Xiaomi A1 and A1 Pro are priced as regular runabouts in the city and this is evident in their peak speed of 25kph. Although the company has not disclosed the power of the hub-mounted engine, the top speed is in line with China’s laws on electric mopeds. It’s still unclear if the engine is able to push the moped to higher top speed.
On the other side, the A1 has an estimated range of 60 km. While the A1 Pro will reach 70 km before the juice runs out. The A1 Pro has a wider capacity, as it comes with a bigger battery pack at 9.6kWh. While the A1 has a lower 7.68kWh. The best thing, however, is that the battery is reversible, making it easy to carry it inside your home or office to a charging socket.
The A1 and A1 Pro are just the same in terms of style. The compact concept is pleasing but there is no space for a pillion. Demonstrating the use of the moped as a personal mobility tool.
The suspension at the front is a normal telescopic fork, while at the rear there is a collection of traditional twin shocks that take care to damp out rough paths.
Being a proven smartphone and tablet manufacturer, Xiaomi has also helped integrate some unique features into its electric mopeds. For example, the instrument panel is a full-color instrument cluster with GPS navigation. There’s even a 1.080p wide-angle camera that lets users capture their drives. The video can be stored in the onboard memory bank of the A1 Pro. Nevertheless, the A1 will have an additional memory stick to hold the video clips.
