BERLIN — Mercedes-Benz plans to feature a powered version of the G-class all-terrain bike.
A full-electric version of the G category can facilitate Mercedes to meet future dioxide emissions laws. It’ll conjointly facilitate secure the model’s future at a time once environmentalists are targeting dangerous, less-efficient SUVs with high emissions.
The G category, within the most potent AMG version, has dioxide emissions as high as 304 grams per metric linear unit.
Ola Kallenius, business executive of Mercedes parent Gottlieb Daimler, told the Automobilwoche Congress here in November. Seven that there’ll be a zero-emissions version of the G category. Automobilwoche maybe a sister publication of Automotive News Europe.
“We can electrify the G category and considerably improve the dioxide balance of the powertrain once there’s a model upgrading,” Kallenius aforesaid.
The rugged, boxy-styled G category has modified very little since the body-on-frame SUV was introduced in 1979. Contract manufacturer Magna Steyr designs it in the metropolis, Austria.
The future of the G category has been a doubtful variety of times throughout its life owing to its terrible niche charm. However, Kallenius indicated that it’s an extended future underneath his leadership.
“In the past, there have been discussions whether or not we must always eliminate the model, the manner I see things currently I’d say the last Mercedes to be designed is going to be a G category,” Kallenius aforesaid.
Kallenius gave no details of the temporal arrangement of the electrical G category launch, nor any data regarding its drivetrain.
The electric G category is probably going to use the equivalent weight badge that Mercedes uses for its powered vehicles like the EQC compact crossover.
Austrian company Kreisel electrical has already changed a G category with an electrical powertrain for former CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a native of the metropolis.
