Suzuki Jimny has been the company’s 3-door and 5-door SUV, which has grabbed the world’s attention from time to time. The Jimny is the Japanese 4-wheel-drive mini SUV with enhanced off-road capabilities. But will the Suzuki Jimny rest its tires on the Indian land?
The mini off-roading SUV by Suzuki has been in the International market for long. Since 1970, the Jimny has been a rugged, stylish off-roader available in four different variants. But the vehicle could be discontinued worldwide pretty soon. Well, the reason is the vehicle’s massive carbon footprint. Maruti Suzuki Jimny MK4 launched in 2018 is the latest face of the Jimny, and it carries a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine produces around 108Ps of maximum power along with 138Nm of peak torque.
The average emission target for new cars in Europe in 2021 will be around 95g CO2/km. Thus Suzuki is looking forward to discontinuing the mini SUV. Suzuki Jimny produces around 154g CO2/km with a 5-speed manual and 170g CO2/km with the automatic gearbox, which are considered quite high that the allowed numbers.
Thus Suzuki finds it easy to discontinue, but the company mind gives it an upgraded powertrain. So will India allow the Suzuki Jimny following the BS6 strict rules?
The manufacturer may or may not launch the car here too because of the strict emission norms, especially after the advent of BS6. The 3-door variant was directly denied for the launch, while the 5-door has pretty high emissions too. So it will be pretty hard to see the Jimny on Indian roads unless the company decides to change the engine.
