We always think of a future with flying cars or self-driving ones at least. And the technology is getting closer and closer to these midnight things. Anyways, heard of Amazon, well it looks like they look keen on investing in a new startup for autonomous vehicles.
Amazon has widespread in almost every sector. And autonomous is its a vision for the future. Whole Foods, IMDb, Twitch, Audible, Zappos, Goodreads, and LivingSocial are just a few companies that fall under Amazon’s wide reach. One area where Amazon hasn’t really ventured into yet is the automotive realm. The company has already shaken hands with Rivian for electric delivery vans and now with Zoox, a Silicon-valley startup in the autonomous cars field.
“Autonomous technology is a natural extension of Amazon’s efforts to build its own third-party logistics network,” said Morgan Stanley’s analysts. Purchasing a startup with autonomous technology could put Amazon up against companies like General Motors and Tesla. It would also open doors for Amazon to enter ride-sharing and food delivery segments. Beyond that, it could even send a ripple through traditional shipping companies like USPS and FedEx.
Zoox, started six years ago, to be at the top in driverless tech, but for taxis. Recently, Zoox shared a video on a Toyota Highlander that was modified with its technology driving around autonomously around San Francisco. Looks like Amazon found a diamond in the hay.
