Created by Robia Rashid, Atypical stars Keir Gilchrist as Sam Gardner, an autistic adolescent who must contend with all the trials and tribulations of growing up. Among Sam’s defining characteristics is that he is fascinated by Antarctica and loves penguins. The series was revived for a fourth and final season in February 2020.
The Netflix first series also focuses on the lifestyles of Sam’s family members. His mom Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh) loves him very much, but can be overbearing and is hesitant to let Sam have the liberty he craves. His father Doug (Michael Rapaport) is a type but oblivious to the needs of his family. Sam’s sister Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine) is his confidant and protector, but like her brother, she desperately needs to branch out.
Atypical also stars Amy Okuda, Graham Rogers, Nik Dodani, Raúl Castillo, Jenna Boyd, Angel Laketa, and Fivel Stewart.
