Rob Liefeld said Ryan Reynolds ought to do Green Lantern again before reprising Merc with a Mouth at Deadpool 3. After the actor’s disappointing first outing as Wade Wilson in Hugh Jackman’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he tried to move to DC by playing Hal Jordan from the 2011 Warner Bros. movie. The film was poorly received by viewers and critics. Despite this, Liefeld is pushing for Reynolds to play the character – so much so that he needs it to be prioritized over Deadpool 3.
Through the years, Reynolds has used his stint as Hal in Green Lantern since the butt of his jokes. He even snuck in one or two at his Deadpool films. More recently, he and Taika Waititi – who was also in the film as Thomas Kalmaku – poked fun at their shared experience, pretending they don’t remember the project whatsoever while promoting their upcoming movie, Free Guy. No matter the concept has been floating that Reynolds could revisit the role.
Speaking with ComicBook, the veteran comic book author reveals that he would love to see Reynolds don the magical green ring and reprise his previous role as Green Lantern. While he’s been open about needing this possibility to come to fruition, he takes it up a notch saying that the actor should do a Green Lantern film again until Deadpool 3.
Liefeld’s comments regarding Reynolds starring in another Green Lantern film come on the heels of his candid reaction with Marvel Studios’ shortage of programs to get Deadpool 3. The author blamed Kevin Feige and his group for supposedly sidestepping the job despite the clamor for it because it does not fit their”master plan.” Thus far, just MCU’s Stage 4 has been formally confirmed with secured dates till the summer of 2022. Feige has yet to announce any particular plans for any of their newly-acquired characters from Fox Marvel such as the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool, however, that’s not to say that they don’t have some idea concerning how they are likely to creatively handle them. If anything, Reynolds disclosed that Deadpool 3 is currently in development at Marvel Studios together with the celebrity having fulfilled the manufacturers to talk about it.
With everything considered, what would be the chances that Reynolds will reprise his role as Hal Jordan in a different Green Lantern movie? At this point, very slim to none. While a Green Lantern job is currently in the works using Geoff Johns producing the forthcoming HBO Max series, it’s more likely going to establish another character from Reynolds’ movie. In terms of Deadpool 3, it is merely a matter of time before any plans are shown.
