The October celebration will be the first time when three generations of McRae have competed at the same event with his grandfather, five-time British champion Jimmy, and father, 1995 British champion Alister, also set to take part in the one-off rally.
Max won the Arise Racing Driver Search competition at home in Australia where Alister has been domiciled for several years and will compete in the Western Australia Formula 1000 single-series to be held this year which is one of the reputed events of the year.
After being the winner of numerous karting titles, McRae’s have now finally moved into single-seaters which is conventional, but he still holds ambitions in rallying which is visible from his recent statements.
Max was excited and said that “I have a great opportunity with Formula 1000 this year,” and “Driving cars like the Radical in the selection process was such a good experience for me. He showed his excitement by saying that “I still can’t believe I’ve won it, to be honest. I’m really excited about the season ahead and the chance to make the move out of karts and into racing cars.
Max revealed that rallying is so important to him. Max told, he had the chance to go to Wales to drive some of the cars of his dad and Colin drove in their career, which was an amazing experience for him.
Max is not expected to be seen in a Subaru Impreza WRC now synonymous with Colin at Knockhill later this year, but father Alister has other plans for him and is very keen for him to take part which is visible from his statement that he is looking forward to the McRae Rally Challenge and said Max’s gramps is very keen to have him there on the entry list.
In addition to his racing commitments in Australia, Max will also compete in a Tarmac Rallysprint Series close to his home in Perth. The McRae Rally Challenge will run from October 2-4 in 2020. As well as in the circuit-based stages, there will be the number of evening functions with stars of the rally world on Friday and Saturday evening.
The last McRae Rally Challenge was hosted at Knockhill in 2015, which celebrated 20 years since Colin’s WRC won the title.
