After Netflix’s victory with The Witcher, eyes are now turning into more games as potential source material. According to a Deadline report from back in January 2019, a version of the zombie-horror Resident Evil series has been in development in the streaming giant. While we have not heard much about the show as – no official announcements are made and lots of details are still unconfirmed – we’re starting to get a better idea of what a Netflix take on Resident Evil might look like, due to alleged leaked manufacturing info acquired by Witcher enthusiast site Redanian Intelligence.
WHEN IS RESIDENT EVIL’S NETFLIX RELEASE DATE?
So there’s no release date at this point, Netflix has yet to announce that the show is currently occurring. The leak posits a timeline starting with pre-production in April, beginning shooting in June, and wrap up by October. Accounting for its adaptation, this trajectory, would probably mean an early 2021 release. However, following The Witcher’s achievement, this series could be fast-tracked for a late 2020 debut.
HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN RESIDENT EVIL SEASON 1?
According to Iranian Intelligence, the Resident Evil Netflix series will include eight 60-minute episodes. This is going to be a departure from the feature-length films dependent on the franchise we have seen before, the brainchild of German movie studio Constantin Movies and Paul W. S. Anderson, who served as author, director, and producer throughout the six-film series.
WHO MAKES UP THE CAST AND CREW OF RESIDENT EVIL ON NETFLIX?
No names are connected nevertheless, save Constantin Film, the studio behind the feature-length Resident Evil films. It will not be the German studio’s first foray into tv; it was also involved with Shadowhunters, the Freeform adaptation of the fantasy novels by Cassandra Clare.
Do not expect Paul W. S. Anderson to return to the franchise, however. He formerly told Inverse: “I feel as though I have done what I needed to do with Resident Evil, therefore I’m eager to move on and do something else.” That something? Monster Hunter, another movie game film adaptation produced by Constantin.
WHAT’S THE PLOT OF RESIDENT EVIL?
A year ago, when the details of the job were reported by Deadline, the storyline synopsis said the series”will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation as well as the new world order caused by the epidemic of the T-virus.”
That is the plot of every Resident Evil game and film, so that doesn’t tell us too much. The films feature characters in Ada Wong, such as heroes Jill Valentine, Claire, and Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and the games. It is not clear if the Netflix show will reevaluate or recast these figures, or when the series will hone in on a wholly new aspect of the RE world-class.
Instead, it appears which the series will have a dive into antagonists, therefore we’ll presumably find out more about the scientists that are mad at Umbrella, like William Birkin and Albert Wexler.
IS THERE A TRAILER FOR NETFLIX’S RESIDENT EVIL?
Given the rumored shooting deadline, a trailer won’t be on the horizon before shooting wraps up in October. It’s the ideal time of year to get a spooky series, and also happens to fall right around New York Comic Con’s time the second weekend of this month.
It might appear a long time to wait, but there is at least some expectation of more info: a schedule means an official statement from Netflix is sure to come shortly, and some plot info or creative names attached.
