Skoda Automobile Volkswagen India to install solar panels on Pune plant

Skoda Automobile Volkswagen India has commissioned among the largest Rooftop systems in India in Chakan, Pune in its plant.

With its partner Amp Energy — a company that develops clean and flexible energy infrastructure — that the German car manufacturer has set up a total of 25,770 photovoltaic panels in the plant.

The setup will cover up to 15% of the site’s annual electricity requirements, and the panels have a maximum output of 8.5MW.

The company is reducing its dependence on non-renewable energy in its Pune site, whilst producing an important prerequisite for the plant’s carbon neutrality, by placing the system into operation.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has created a prerequisite to become carbon-neutral by 2030. The organization’s own photovoltaic system is made up of 25,770 highly effective polycrystalline panels covering the 63,000 sq m of roof area .

The setup will generate a total of 12.2 million kWh of energy each year, decreasing CO2 emissions resulting from car production in the website by over 9,000 tonnes per year. Immediate heat radiation at the workshop is also reduced.

Commenting on the green initiative, Gurpratap Boparai, managing director of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, stated,”By putting the solar-power system into surgery in our plant at Pune, we are reinforcing our commitment and making an important contribution to the sustainable ecological future of our firm.

We plan to execute further environmentally friendly projects in the future, actively ensuring that India results in reducing CO2 emissions globally.”

Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics, added,”We’re pushing ahead with our target of attaining carbon-neutral production globally by 2030″.

By commissioning the new solar-power rooftop system in the Pune website, we are also setting an example for sustainability and also a feeling of responsibility in India.”

Along with consistently enhancing Skoda Auto, its carbon footprint Volkswagen India is focusing on development Conservation of cost optimisation and resources.

For example, The plant in Pune is currently working towards getting rid of the need for waste to Be disposed of at landfills.

Lots of projects are being Implemented with the intent of earning production more sustainable.
