Skoda Automobile Volkswagen India has commissioned among the largest Rooftop systems in India in Chakan, Pune in its plant.

With its partner Amp Energy — a company that develops clean and flexible energy infrastructure — that the German car manufacturer has set up a total of 25,770 photovoltaic panels in the plant.

The setup will cover up to 15% of the site’s annual electricity requirements, and the panels have a maximum output of 8.5MW.

The company is reducing its dependence on non-renewable energy in its Pune site, whilst producing an important prerequisite for the plant’s carbon neutrality, by placing the system into operation.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has created a prerequisite to become carbon-neutral by 2030. The organization’s own photovoltaic system is made up of 25,770 highly effective polycrystalline panels covering the 63,000 sq m of roof area .

The setup will generate a total of 12.2 million kWh of energy each year, decreasing CO2 emissions resulting from car production in the website by over 9,000 tonnes per year. Immediate heat radiation at the workshop is also reduced.
