The first time Mercedes W11 came onto tracks, we were mesmerized by the double-axis steering, the DAS. This was a revolution, and not visible one in thoughts. And it came up as the most potent performance upgrade from last time.
They did bring the rear suspensions as adventurous ones, with new geometry on the system to get more downforce from Aerodynamics. What Mercedes went for was sweeping the lower wishbone of suspension as back as possible. This shall create a more workspace for airflow to maximize the performance of the system.
More airflow creates more of performance from F1 cars. Thus, greater downforce helps in creating more force within the system itself. Significantly, they went for front legs mouths are far back from the gearbox, and rear ones go up to crash structures. This gave way to the present idea.
So, it seems that DAS though took the last season headlines, it is this time innovation that will make it more of the lap time for Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas in the upcoming chase at the World Championship double in 2020.
