Formula 1 will revert with the chequered flag to officially signal the end of races at 2020 following the problem earlier this season, it struck using its replacement light panel.
Though the chequered flag was waved after races this season, a chequered lighting panel has also been used to officially indicate the end of races. Nevertheless, that was revealed a lap too early in error during the Japanese Grand Prix, and the race was cut short as a result.
The FIA has announced the conventional flag is going to be the signal again from next year as part of a package of changes agreed by the World Motor Sport Council.
Other changes to the sporting and technical regulations for the 2020 F1 season will include new wording” concerning the sampling and testing of gas in the events to integrate benchmark declarations”. This follows the controversy at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix than they had declared, at which Ferrari was discovered to have put five kilograms more gas at the car of Charles Leclerc.
The regulations are also altered to”prevent teams from covering their automobiles during winter testing, to make these events more appealing to the fans and media”.
The FIA has appointed a provider of wheel rims. BBS won the tender to provide the rims which are used after next year. “A consultation phase with the groups and BBS was run under the mediation of the FIA Technical Department, with a few resultant minor modifications to the initial specification being accepted now,” the FIA stated.
Two other components suppliers were formally verified. Magnetti Marelli will create fuel primer pumps and Bosch will provide high-pressure fuel pumps and piping. Additionally, this follows a period of consultation between the teams the providers and power unit manufacturers.
