Audi chairman stated that Audi had been involved in too many projects, so to reduce the complexity, Audi would focus on critical projects only, which include the new Audi A5 electric sedan.

This new model will be based on Premium Platform Electric (PPE) which is a model for the upper midsize model which according to Audi is an EV equivalent of combustion cars equipped with a longitudinally mounted engine. PPE technology is similar to the MEB platform, which, consolidates electronic controls and reduces the number of microprocessors, advances the application of new driver-assistance technology and somewhat alters the VW Group build cars.

The new A5 electric sedan will be an all-wheel-drive with one electric motor positioned on the rear axle and a second motor featured upfront. The electric platform is flexible enough to be used for a large number of battery sizes, with the longest-range option topping out at 300 miles. The PPE architecture will also feature an 800V system capable of 350-kW charging that’s very fast charging.

The electric sedan is expected to be that of the size of Audi A4, and the model is most likely to hit the market in 2023, which means we could be seeing a production version in 2022 and a concept car shortly.
