Yamaha is starting to dispatch the WR155R in the Indonesian markets. Although being a dirt bike, it shares its engine with the YZF-R15 V3.0. As it is an off-road motorcycle, it gets a varied tuning for the engine to match its nature. The 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine produces 18.4 bhp and 14.1 Nm on the YZF-R15 V3.0. But the same produces 16.5 bhp and 14.3 Nm on the WR155R. The motor has a link to a 6 speed gearbox.
There is a lot of difference in the frame-work of the two bikes too. The YZF-R15 uses a delta-box frame while the dirt or dual-purpose motorcycle, the WR155R has a semi-double cradle frame. Given that it has an off-road character, the WR155R uses 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels.
Other hardware features include the long-travel 41 mm front forks and a pre-loaded, gas-charged rear mono-shock to show great shock absorption power. Anchoring power comes from a 220 mm rotor at the back and 240 mm single-disc at the front.
The Indian markets shall not be able to receive these models, but Yamaha is eyeing the small-capacity adventure motorcycle in our market. As the earlier reports suggest, Yamaha may develop an FZ25-based adventure bike for Indians.
