The Umbrella Academy was among the very well-known shows on Netflix last year. Enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting to learn what happens next ever since Season 1 was released in February 2019. Luckily, the series was confirmed for another season in April 2019.
Here’s what we know so far about The Umbrella Academy Season two.
THE STORY
The Umbrella Academy Season 1 ended on a huge cliffhanger. Vanya Hargreeves became the White Violin, and also the Academy came together to take her down. While they were able to prevent Vanya from killing her, they still failed to protect against the apocalypse. Number Five used his time travel powers to whisk his siblings and himself, including the unconscious Vanya off even though it is uncertain where or if they ended up. Such as Number Five, each sibling appeared to revert to their 13-year-old self the entire world has been engulfed in flames, and just until they disappeared.
On Feb. 19, The Umbrella Academy’s official Twitter account released posters for Season two that teased, “When are they?” But they have yet to release a trailer or an official synopsis for next season. So what happens next?
The Umbrella Academy relies on the Dark Forest comic-book series of the same title by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. Season 1 loosely follows the first comic arc, “Apocalypse Suite,” with a few elements of the second arc, “Dallas.” Certain events in the tv adaptation differ considerably from the source material but we can still expect Season 2 to follow along with the “Dallas” arc. It could even incorporate some elements from the third arc, “Hotel Oblivion.”
In”Dallas,” the Academy travels back to the 1960s with the aid of Number Five’s former employer, the Temps Aeternalis. A couple of our heroes work together with the organization to ensure that the assassination of President John F. Kennedy occurs while the other Academy members operate to block it. It appears probable that this particular story will be told by the series since time travel appears to be a focus for Season two.
Also, “Hotel Oblivion” shows concerning the Hargreeves’ adopted father, Reginald Hargreeves, including that he made an off-world prison to house each of the Academy’s conquered adversaries. The arc culminates at a jailbreak that sees the villains return to wreak havoc on the Earth. Parts of this story could be incorporated as a way to set up a Season 3, particularly into Season two.
RELEASE DATE
The Umbrella Academy Season 2 will be published on July 31, 2020. Production was halted on many TV shows and movies on account of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but luckily, this did not impact The Umbrella Academy. Filming for Season 2 wrapped in November, once the pandemic began along with the project was in post-production. As a result, we will not have to wait much longer for new episodes.
CAST AND CREW
Steve Blackman continues as showrunner for The Umbrella Academy Season 2. All the Hargreeves siblings will be coming too, with Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, David Castañeda as Diego, Tom Hopper as Luther, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aidan Gallagher as Number Five, Justin Min as both Ben and Ellen Page as Vanya. In terms of the remainder of the Season 1 cast, no other returns are verified, but between the show’s time-traveling and Klaus’ ability, it’s still possible they’ll be seen.
The Academy will also be joined by three newcomers: Ritu Arya (People ), Yusuf Gatewood (Good Omens), and Marin Ireland (Y: The Last Man). Arya will perform a character named Lila who’s described as”a chameleon who is as brilliant or as clinically mad as the situation demands,” Gatewood will play Raymond, a”born leader” and”devoted husband,” while Ireland will play Sissy, a”fearless, no-nonsense Texas mom.”
Based on the Dark Horse Comics series created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy celebrities Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min. Season 1 of this Umbrella Academy is now available on Netflix and Season 2 will be released on July 31.
