Overview
The Handmaid’s Tale is a Dystopian tragedy series created by Bruce Miller based on a novel written by Margaret Atwood of the same name. Three seasons have been released on Hulu. The first season debuted on 26th April 2017, the second season on 25th April 2018, and the third season on 5th June 2019. The first season consists of 10 episodes whereas both second and third season consisting of 13 episodes each. The running time of each episode is around 45 to 64 minutes.
The average rating given by Rotten Tomatoes to the series is 88% and the audience has awarded an average score of 77%.
Cast
We will see the main characters return which includes Elizabeth Moss as June Osborne, Ann Dowd as Aunt Lynda, and Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy. Additionally, we might also see Alexis Bledel return as Emily, Joseph Fiennes as Commander Waterford, and O.T. Fagbenie as Luke. We regret to inform you that the character names Rita played by Amanda Brugel will not return.
Plot
The backdrop is set in the time after the civil war when the fertility rates had collapsed due to the increasing threat of STD’s and the society had become a power-driven and military base. This had led to the enslavement of fertile women worldwide. Such women included adulteresses, homosexuals, unmarried mothers, non-Christians and are known as Handmaids. Consequently, women were divided into different classes and each class had a dress code.
Moreover, the police are watchdogs of the society who keep in check that there are no rebels or people who want to flee the country. June Osborne (Offred) is married to Luke and has a daughter by after she tried to flee the country with her family she was assigned as a Handmaid to the Gileadan Commander, Fred Waterford. Her husband fled to Canada and her daughter was given to an affluent family. The entire storyline revolves around June’s attempts to get together with her family.
Releasing Date
There is no official announcement regarding the release of season 4 but it will not be aired till autumn 2020. The shooting was to start on 3rd March and wound up by fall. Thus, we won’t witness a summer debut like the previous seasons as it has been further delayed due to the pandemic situation.
