Seth MacFarlane provides an update on the status of The Orville season 3.
From the moment it was initially announced The Orville will be making the leap from FOX to Hulu, the pressing question on many fans’ minds was The Orville season 3 could arrive on the streaming service.
In announcing the show’s transfer to Hulu during the series’s 2019 San Diego Comic-Con panel, it had been revealed that the series wouldn’t return until 2020 because of the series’ ambitious and high production levels. Production on season 3 officially began in Fall 2019 and was through March 2020, up until as a result of coronavirus that was continuing pandemic was closed down.
So what does this mean for season 3’s fate?
Dropping by The Tonight Show, creator and star Seth MacFarlane opened up about the standing of season 3 and there appear to be a few goods and bad news for lovers. The good news is the creative team has finished about half of The Orville season 3’s installment before the manufacturing shutdown nonetheless, the destiny of season 3 depends upon when it will be safe to restart production.
“It depends on if we get back to work,” MacFarlane shown when asked about The Orville season 3 premiere date. “It depends upon what conditions we get back to work. We shot about half the year, and it is looking amazing. We’re gonna be delivering just a tiny movie weekly.”
While it’s a positive indication that the production team managed to complete half of the season before the shutdowns, if creation is not able to restart until late summer it seems safe to presume The Orville season 3 could very well be postponed. It seems safe to presume another six months may be required to complete the remaining half of season 3 When it took six weeks to produce the first half of the season.
As such, it’s hard not to wonder whether The Orville season 3 may be postponed until early 2021 unless Hulu opts to launch this season in two halves, although that plan seems improbable.
